Apraxia of Speech

Apraxia can be described as a brain-body-disconnect where an individual knows exactly what they want to say but struggles to execute the necessary motor plan. With intentional movements, motor planning support and repetition, we can improve speech initiation and intelligibility.

A few years ago, I strongly considered pursuing a dual degree to become both an Occupational Therapist and a Speech-Language Pathologist. While I ultimately chose not to take that path, I invested extensively in continuing education focused on occupational therapy principles. These experiences deepened my understanding of sensory processing, regulation, motor planning, and executive functioning, all of which are closely tied to communication. My services are not a replacement for occupational therapy; rather, this interdisciplinary knowledge allows me to support children more holistically and address communication development from multiple, complementary angles

Starting speech therapy with a new provider can be nerve-racking. For your first visit, you can expect a gentle introduction to a new space, with time to explore, play and start laying the foundation for communication growth!
